High-strength, high-corrosion-resistant lean duplex stainless steel "SUS821L1"
We obtained JIS certification on September 24. Lightweight design is now possible due to high strength!!! It is expected to have improved corrosion resistance against chlorine and water.
This is a lean duplex stainless steel developed by Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, leading the world in innovation. With a composition of 21% Cr and 2% Ni, it forms a fine microstructure that combines ferritic structure, represented by SUS430, and austenitic structure, represented by SUS304, resulting in a strength that is 2.5 times that of ordinary steel and about twice that of SUS304. This allows for significant weight reduction. Furthermore, it has excellent corrosion resistance and is less prone to stress corrosion cracking in chlorine environments after processing, demonstrating reliability in coastal conditions. Initially named NSSSC2120, it obtained JIS certification on September 24 last year and is now designated as SUS821L1. Currently, it is primarily used for solar power generation frames and mounting hardware, but an expansion of applications in various fields is expected in the future.
